Passengers have been reporting long check-in delays at London Stansted Airport following a power cut.

Officials at the Essex facility said power had since been restored, with engineers working hard to get systems up and running again.

The airport said flights were operating as normal, but people were being told to allow plenty of time for travel.

Some passengers said on social media that it was taking an hour to get through security.

The airport announced earlier on Monday that it was “experiencing an ongoing partial power outage in the terminal that is affecting a number of airport systems, including check-in, security and baggage”.

An update at 10:15 BST confirmed that power had been restored, but it was taking “slightly longer than usual for passengers to pass through the terminal while systems recover”.

Passengers posting on social media described “absolute chaos”, with one saying that seven scanners were unstaffed despite the long queues.

Another said she was “stuck in security queue for an hour, now going to miss flight from Stansted. No-one helping”.

The airport has apologised to customers and advised people to allow plenty of time for their travel, and to check with their airlines for updates.
