Pakistan’s white-ball captain Babar Azam recently lost his cool after he was mobbed by fans for a selfie in Cardiff. The ace batter was visibly upset with the behavior of his supporters and scolded them.
Babar is currently in the UK with Pakistan’s team for a four-match T20I series. Ahead of the third fixture, a video has surfaced on social media in which the 29-year-old seemed angry at some fans.
After being surrounded by a few people on the street, Babar was heard saying:
“Do minute doge. Upar nahi chadho. [Will you give me two minutes? Don’t rush].”
After the video went viral on social media, some fans sided with Babar, suggesting that the privacy of cricketers should be respected. However, a few opined that the Pakistani skipper could have been a bit polite.
Here are some of the top reactions:
Reacting to the incident, certain X users reckoned that Babar Azam was not at fault and blamed fans for their conduct.
“It’s quite normal for a celebrity to lose his cool when surrounded by a crowd during his personal time. You can’t take a video to judge him as a whole. He’s a beautiful soul.” wrote a fan
“You can’t take a video to judge him as a whole. Grow up.” commented another
“The reason for scolding is there in the video.. He was talking about something personal relating to travel and where they r heading which is not for public consumption. N PPL still kept recording it.” chimed in yet another
It is worth mentioning that Babar Azam relinquished Pakistan’s captaincy across formats following the team’s league-stage exit at the 2023 ODI World Cup last year. However, he was reinstated as the team’s white-ball skipper earlier this year in March.
“This is not PSL” – Shoaib Malik unhappy with Babar Azam and Pakistan’s team management following 23-loss to England in 2nd T20I
The T20I series opener between England and Pakistan was washed out due to rain. The visitors suffered a 23-run defeat in the second encounter, getting bundled out for 160 while chasing an 184-run target at Birmingham.
After the loss, former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik took to social media, slamming skipper Babar Azam and the team management.
“This is not PSL this is international cricket that too, just before T20 World Cup. IMO, the batting order should be…Fakhar, Rizwan, Babar, Azam, Iftkar, Imad, Shadab. Captain needs to utilise the options on bench wisely. Moving forward, the captain should give time & enough overs to Azam & Iftikhar to settle first, expecting them to score 12-14 rightaway is unfair. All the best for remaining matches!!!”
The third T20I between Pakistan and England will take place at Cardiff on Tuesday, May 28.
