Katie Boulterâs impressive form on grass continued in the lead up to Wimbledon as she defeated Jelena Ostapenko to reach the quarter-finals at Eastbourne.
The British number one claimed a confident 6-4 7-5 win against former French Open champion Ostapenko.
Boulter is attempting to win a second grass-court title this month after triumphing in Nottingham.
âItâs definitely taken a lot of the pressure off me,â Boulter said.
âI wasnât sure what to expect coming into this grass-court season, Iâm out here having fun and enjoying myself.â
Boulter will be seeded for the first time at Wimbledon this year, meaning she canât face a player ranked in the top 32 until the third round.
But the 27-year-old showed she can compete with the top players, outplaying one of the biggest hitters on the WTA Tour.
âHonestly, I was just trying to slap a little harder than she was,â Boulter said.
âSheâs so tough to play against, you never know what is going to happen and itâs completely in her control.â
Britainâs Emma Raducanu continues her Wimbledon preparations against American second seed Jessica Pegula later on Wednesday.
Earlier, defending champion Madison Keys booked her spot in the quarter-finals with a 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 victory over Ukrainian qualifier Anhelina Kalinina.
Karolina Muchova completed her first full match since September with a 6-4 6-1 win against Polandâs Magda Linette.
And in an all-British affair on court two, Billy Harris fought back from a set down to beat lucky loser Charles Broom 3-6 6-2 6-2.
Confident Boulter overcomes tough test
Katie Boulter has more grass-court wins (seven) than any other player on the WTA Tour this season
Under a scorching sun on centre court, Ostapenkoâs first-set service games were riddled with double faults and foot-faults, while she also struggled with her ball toss.
Boulter took advantage to earn a 5-1 lead, but the world number 32 faltered when serving for the set and had to wait patiently for her next service game to clinch the opener on her seventh set point.
After exchanging breaks in the early stages of the second set, Ostapenko started to pile pressure on Boulter, but the Briton absorbed her opponentâs big hitting and struck a decisive blow at 5-5.
And, brimming with confidence, Boulter slammed down an unreturnable first serve to seal her last-eight spot.
She will play French Open runner-up and third seed Jasmine Paolini or Elise Mertens of Belgium in the quarter-finals.
