The 2024 NBA Draft is about to begin and the uncertainties about the mock drafts have already started just a few hours before the event. Projected lottery picks Rob Dillingham and Ron Holland could reportedly slide in the draft, according to the lead scout and NBA Draft Insider, Jonathan Wasserman.
The news has been posted by NBA Central on X:
“Ron Holland and Rob Dillingham are in ‘jeorpardy’ of sliding in the draft tonight, per @NBADraftWass,” NBA Central wrote on X.
Kentucky’s Rob Dillingham draft prospects ranged from top three to late lottery, according to Bleacher Report. However, the player’s draft floor can go further than that.
Despite being a great shotmaker with the ability to mix it with shot creation, scouts talked about his average playmaking and poor defense. Dillingham averaged 15.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg, and 3.9 apg in the 2023-24 season. At the same time, he averaged only 0.1 blocks per game.
On the other hand, a G League professional, Ron Holland declared for the draft after just one year. He is a great athlete and a very decisive attacker. However, scouts reported shooting as one of his weaknesses. His shot is not completely broken, but there is room for improvement which might push him out of the lottery pick section.
In the G League, he averaged 18.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg, and 2.8 apg in the 2023-24 season for the Ignite Stars. Shooting 47.4% from the field, he lacked the stats when it came to shooting from beyond the arc. He shot only 23.9% from the 3-point line last season.
Rob Dillingham was compared to Lou Williams
At 6-foot-1, Rob Dillingham possesses the ability to shoot from inside the paint very efficiently. However, there are times when he struggles against the tough interior defense mainly because of his size.
There have been times when his style of play has been compared with three-time Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams. Lou Williams measures 6-foot-3 and is one of the most excellent scorers for the Atlanta Hawks. He was a No. 45 pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2005 NBA Draft.
