Attacker jailed for killing man outside pub
A man who killed a defenceless man in an “unprovoked” attack outside a pub has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Steven Chappell, 29, of Cwmdare, Rhondda Cynon Taf was found guilty of manslaughter in a trial at Cardiff Crown Court in July.
Daniel Bradley, 32, died in hospital on 23 September 2023, two weeks after being kicked, punched, and pushed to the ground outside the Brogden Pub in Porthcawl, Bridgend county.
South Wales Police said Mr Bradley had represented no threat and was the victim of a “reckless” attack.
The jury in his trial was shown footage of the incident, with the prosecution saying Mr Bradley was “defenceless”.
He suffered a displaced fracture on the right side of his ribs, a brain injury caused by oxygen deprivation, and developed a chest infection that led to sepsis.
“Daniel suffered a violent, unprovoked attack,” said Det Insp Claire Lamerton.
“Daniel didn’t represent any threat, and nothing happened that night that justified what Steven Chappell did.
“Rather than walking away, Steven Chappell’s anger resulted in the assault on Daniel being excessive, unnecessary, and completely reckless.”
