Travis Scott released the music video for his 2014 single Drugs You Should Try It on August 28, just days after the mixtape Days Before Rodeo was re-released for its tenth anniversary. The video features cinematic visuals, including a neon-lit cowboy sign by Virgil Abloh (used in his 2015 Rodeo Tour) and a screen displaying Travis Scott’s lyrics as an ad banner with a phone number.
In the music video, the Houston rapper was seen “free-falling” shirtless under the night sky in slow motion, while trying to stay conscious of his whereabouts. He also appeared smoking a joint, rapping under red lights, and surfacing from a bathtub moments after almost drowning in its cold water.
The introspective monochrome shots, inspired by the original cover art of Days Before Rodeo, also featured Travis Scott trying to reconnect with reality and elude the visions of a burning house, the morgue, a wolf, and femme fatale models.
Amid this now-viral MV, the internet is having varied reactions. For instance, X user @SportsarenatzTz commented on NFR Podcast’s post by pointing out how hard it must be to create a music video a decade after the song’s original release.
“This is tough 10 years later,” the user wrote.
Many others joined the conversation and shared similar reactions.
“10 years was worth the wait,” a fan wrote.
“This is so awesome man 10 years later,” another fan wrote.
Others hailed the new MV and claimed how they eagerly waited for it to be released for a decade.
“I used to always imagine a music video to this song years ago. Now it’s here and it’s just crazy,” a person wrote.
“Really appreciate this coz they don’t bother making music videos like this anymore,” another person wrote.
“The epitome of ‘better late than never,’” a netizen wrote.
Some appreciated La Flame for the music video while adding that more artists needed to do the same for their past records.
“Love this so much!! I feel like more artists need to do this with their old songs. Travis Scott changing the game!!!” an individual wrote.
“It’s never too late to drop visuals!!” another individual wrote.
