“She’s my hype woman and I love it” – Caroline Wozniacki on her bond with daughter Olivia
Caroline Wozniacki got married to former NBA player David Lee in 2019. In December, of that year, the Dane announced she would retire from professional tennis to give time to her family after the 2020 Australian Open.
In 2021, Wozniacki and Lee celebrated the arrival of their daughter, Olivia. Just over a year later, in December 2022, the couple’s son James was born.
In an interview with Yahoo Sports earlier this year, Wozniacki mentioned that balancing tennis and motherhood feels like having two full-time jobs, but knowing that her daughter recognizes her while watching her play makes it all worthwhile.
“It’s just so special and something I never thought I’d have the opportunity to do. It’s very hard as well because it’s like having two full-time jobs. It’s definitely exhausting, but it’s definitely worth it,” Caroline Wozniacki said.
“My son is too young but Olivia does understand. She’ll tell everyone when she watches tennis on TV, ‘My mum plays tennis and she’s so good’. She’s my hype woman and I love it,” she added.
The Dane’s most recent appearance on court came at the US Open and she produced some fine performances to reach the fourth round, beating Nao Hibino, Renata Zarazua and Jessika Ponchet. Here, Wozniacki suffered a 2-6, 6-3, 3-6 defeat to 22nd seed Beatriz Haddad Maia.
