Bake Off starâs message after revealing baby loss
The Great British Bake Off contestant Georgie has said filming for the showâs latest episode was âexceptionally hardâ after the necklace she wore to remember her late daughter broke.
Georgie told her Instagram followers âyouâre not aloneâ after revealing that her life changed forever in 2021 âwhen my little girl was stillborn at 25 weeksâ.
âDuring the showstopper challenge, my necklace that I wear daily with her hand and footprint, and my mother-daughter necklace, broke half way through the challenge without me knowing, and I had a meltdown,â she said.
Georgie described how she was comforted by presenters Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding and said the Channel 4 production team âwere absolutely amazingâ.

âAlison and Noel held me and comforted me and pushed me to carry on,â she said.
âWe then found the pieces on the floor, and the team kept them safe for me and actually ran out to buy me a new chain.
âAfter this I just couldnât stop the tears from flowing for the rest of the challenge, which is why I look so puffy and ugly, but I continued to carry on but I couldnât give it my all.â
The 34-year-old mother of three, from Carmarthenshire, is one of twelve amateur bakers competing on this yearâs Bake Off.
âI wasnât sure whether to say this, but I am, itâs part of me and my journey,â she said.
â[It] consumed almost all of the showstopper. Itâs not a sob story or an excuse as to why I didnât do amazing, but itâs something I want to explain. And with it being Baby Loss Awareness week next week, it feels appropriate to share awareness.â
This weekâs showstopper challenge, which was broadcast on Tuesday evening, required the bakers to create a puppet theatre out of biscuits.
Georgieâs showstopper was a âWelsh Festivalâ, decorated with chocolate biscuit folk dancers.
âI really wanted to create something special in this showstopper for Wales, Iâm really sorry I couldnât give it my best,â she said in a Instagram post on Tuesday night.
âI donât look for sympathy or anything of the sort. I just want to explain why I didnât give my best,â she added.
Georgie said she later discovered that she was not the only contestant on the show affected by the loss of a child.
Fellow Bake Off contestant Nelly, who lives in Dorset, created a âForest Danceâ puppet theatre and told the programme her piece was âabout my relationship with my husbandâ.
âWe went through a lot of obstacles, but on the end of the forest is the light. We have two beautiful children and there are five stars â each one represents our babies which are no more with us,â Nelly said on the show.
Georgie said Nelly âshared her grief with meâ, adding: âWe got up and carried on.â
âFor anyone struggling, please know youâre not alone,â said Georgie.
