Northern Ireland forward Isaac Price says scoring a hat-trick in Tuesdayâs 5-0 win over Bulgaria is âthe best night of my lifeâ.
Price netted twice in the first-half before a stunning 25-yard effort with nine minutes to play secured a first hat-trick for Price as a Northern Ireland player.
An own goal by Bulgarian goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov and a powerful Josh Magennis effort helped Michael OâNeillâs side to a big win at Windsor Park.
The result moves Northern Ireland to the top of Group C3 with two matches remaining.
âItâs the best night of my life. Itâs what you dream of as a kid,â Price told BBC Sport NI.
George Best scored a hat-trick the last time Northern Ireland won 5-0 at Windsor Park, in April 1971 against Cyprus and it was only the fourth time the nation has ever scored five goals in a match.
Northern Ireland put in a dominant display against Belarus on Saturday but failed to find the breakthrough.
However, once Price tucked away Dion Charlesâ pass in the 15th minute it seemed like a weight had been lifted off the playersâ shoulders against Bulgaria.
Price, 21, fired home a second and Mitovâs own goal made it three before half time.
Charles saw an effort ruled out after Conor Bradley strayed offside, but Priceâs hat-trick strike and a late effort by substitute Magennis rounded out a famous win.
When asked if the superb strike to secure his hat-trick was the best of his career, Price said: âBy far, 100%.â
âThereâs no better feeling. My mum and dad were here to see it,â the Standard Liege midfielder added.
âAll the sacrifices theyâve made to get me to this point, and they can come and witness that, itâs great for me and my family. Itâs just surreal.â
Best comparisons âpretty surrealâ
When asked how it felt to be compared to Bestâs hat-trick 53 years ago, Price said it was hard to put into words.
âHeâs a Northern Ireland legend and hero. To do that is pretty surreal, really.
âTo follow up on that is unbelievable.â
Price added that he players want to âenjoy the momentâ but will look to build upon the performance.
A lot has been made of the potential of this Northern Ireland team and Tuesdayâs result was by far the most convincing of OâNeillâs second stint in charge.
Northern Ireland face Belarus and travel to Luxembourg in their final two Nations League matches before qualifying begins for the 2026 World Cup.
âWe know weâre not the finished team and we have a lot of work to do to get there,â Price added.
âWeâve got a lot of young and exciting players and we can definitely kick on.
âYou can always see that the talent this squad has got, whether if itâs in training or when we play. Itâs about those key moments and maybe in the first game we couldnât put the goals away.
âTonight it just went for us and thatâs the best feeling in the world really.â
