Devin Singletary is not someone people would think of as a top-tier starting running back. He looks rather anonymous compared to Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley and even David Montgomery.
One cannot be faulted for thinking that way, however. His New York Giants had been predicted to be one of the worst teams of the 2024 season, but their horrendous performance is still astounding to see.
The offense has been mostly non-existent, wasting the talents of a monstrous defense led by nose tackle Dexter Lawrence and pass rushers Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari. And their next opponents will continue dissuading fantasy footballers from trusting in Singletary.

Week 8 Fantasy Football: Should you drop Devin Singletary?
The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the best defenses in all of football. Headlined by pass rushers TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith, they are capable of stopping any type of offensive play, but especially the pass.
Daniel Jones will be a sitting duck come Monday as he finds himself unable to avoid the sack. And even if he does get the pass out of the line of scrimmage, a monstrous secondary led by ball-reading safety Minkah Fitzpatrick will cover the receivers so thoroughly that Brian Daboll will stop trying to throw the ball very often.
But if the Giants think they are safe with running the ball, then they should think again. Patrick Queen is one of the most prominent tacklers in all of football, and Cameron Heyward is well on track to being his dominant self after a groin injury limited him in 2023.
Overall, this is not the ideal situation for Devin Singletary to thrive in. He can be realistically held to under 50, 40 or even 30 yards, which will degrade his fantasy value even further.
Devin Singletary fantasy outlook for the rest of 2024 season
The outlook for the former Bill and Texan is not good. Joe Schoen had already attracted much criticism in the 2023 offseason when he elected to extend Daniel Jones instead of Saquon Barkley, but the consequences would not germinate until the next.
Jones became a favorite target of sack machines. Barkley left and is now thriving with the divisional rival Philadelphia Eagles. And now Singletary is finding himself being surpassed by rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. as he watches from the sidelines with an injury.
Overall, he is someone to avoid this season. There are much better sleeper options, like JK Dobbins and Justice Hill.
