The Texas Longhorns’ six-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Kirby Smart’s Georgia in Week 8. This was their first defeat at home this season.
This thrilling SEC showdown between Texas and Georgia was not the only highlight of the night. Fans also got to see the United States Air Force conquer the skies over the Longhorns’ stadium in Austin.
The Longhorns shared a post on Instagram where we can see the 345th Bomb Squadron flying over the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. A few members of the bomb squadron were also present during the game, making this SEC game more memorable for the fans.

“Thank you to the 345th Bomb Squadron for tonight’s flyover us,” the caption read.
The 345th Bomb Squadron is a part of the United States Air Force Reserve Squadron. It was activated during World War II and has become a historical part of America’s history. They are stationed at the Dyess Air Force Base in Austin which is why they made an appearance in the skies during the Texas vs Georgia game.
On the gridiron, the Longhorns failed to put up an offensive masterclass which hindered their chances of a comeback. The Georgia Bulldogs built a 23-point lead at the end of the first half. Despite Quinn Ewers finding two touchdowns for his team in the third quarter, the damage had already been done.
Ewers ended the night recording a total of 211 passing yards and two TD passes for the Longhorns. He was subbed out for Arch Manning in the first half but returned to play the rest of the game for the Longhorns after the break.
Steve Sarkisian puts his faith in Quinn Ewers to continue as Texas’ starting QB
In the post-game press conference, Steve Sarkisian cleared the air surrounding the Longhorns’ QB1 battle. Questions started to rise among fans after Arch Manning replaced Quinn Ewers in the first half.
However, Sarkisian is still confident in Ewers and said that he will continue shouldering the responsibilities as QB1 of the team.
“Quinn’s our starting quarterback,” Sarkisian said as per On3. I appreciate the fact that we are fortunate enough to have a quarterback like Arch that could come into the game and provide a spark in some sense. At the end of the day, Quinn’s our starter…. I think he would tell you he can play better, but we’ve got to coach better.”
The Texas Longhorns will face Vanderbilt next week. The Commodores shocked everyone when they emerged victorious against Alabama in Week 6. It will be interesting to see if they can manage another upset victory over the Longhorns.
