Ten Hag, who replaced Ralf Rangnick in the summer of 2022, guided Manchester United to just four wins in 14 matches across all competitions this season. The 54-year-old helped his team sit in 14th place in the Premier League table with just 11 points from nine games.
The ex-Ajax boss helped the Red Devils finish third and win the EFL Cup trophy in the 2022-23 season. However, he endured a difficult campaign last time around as his side finished eighth in the league table.
Ten Hag, who had a public rift with Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2022, was said to be close to getting sacked earlier this summer. But, the Dutchman’s FA Cup glory with the club last term helped him keep his job.
Manchester United identify four replacements
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United were in touch with a number of top managers before the club’s recent 2-1 league loss to West Ham United. They have identified Xavi Hernandez, Edin Terzic, Ruben Amorim, and Thomas Frank as ideal options as new manager.
Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy will manage the Red Devils in their EFL Cup last-16 clash against Leicester City this Wednesday. He has prior coaching experience at PSV Eindhoven as he guided the Eredivisie outfit to 34 wins and eight losses in 50 overall appearances.
After their encounter against Leicester, the Old Trafford side will host Chelsea in a Premier League home contest on Sunday (November 3).
