Selena Gomez has clapped back at the trolls who commented on her appearance at the premiere of Emilia Pérez at the American French Film Festival in Los Angeles on October 29, 2024. The singer commented on a TikTok video, which has now been deleted, revealing that she has a condition called SIBO.
The now-deleted video talked about Selena Gomez’s pose and showed her placing her hands on her stomach repeatedly. The video caught the singer’s attention, as she commented on it:
“This makes me sick. I have SIBO in my small intestine. It flares up. I don’t care that I don’t look like a stick figure. I don’t have that body. End of story. No, I am NOT a victim. I’m just human.”
SIBO AKA Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth is a condition wherein the patient’s intestines do not absorb protein, carbohydrates and fats. Cleveland Clinic states:
“SIBO is an imbalance of the microorganisms in your gut that maintain healthy digestion. When too many bacteria, or the wrong kind, populate your small intestine, it can lead to uncomfortable symptoms like gas and diarrhoea. It can also inhibit your ability to digest and absorb nutrients from food.”
Symptoms and causes of SIBO explored as Selena Gomez reveals medical condition
As many netizens pointed towards Selena Gomez’s sudden change in appearance, the singer slammed the masses and commented by revealing that she had been diagnosed with SIBO, due to which her weight has been changing.
As per Cleveland Clinic, the condition a lot of times causes many symptoms, including bloating, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, fatigue, gas, abdominal pain, and even weight loss.
The website also states that the causes of the condition can be many, such as low stomach acid or the overuse of medications like antibiotics, or gastric acid suppressants.
Furthermore, it can also be caused by the small intestine’s dysmotility, which means that the waste of the body remains too long in the small intestine, due to which the bacteria keeps multiplying in the system.
Another cause of the disease can be other gastrointestinal problems or complications of a previous surgery.
Moreover, SIBO is not the only condition that the singer suffers from, as she previously revealed about her lupus diagnosis. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that affects the immune system of an individual by attacking the normal cells of the body, causing inflammation and pain.
As per ABC, Selena was diagnosed in 2015, and for the same, she also underwent chemotherapy and a kidney transplant. While the cause of the disease is unknown, the media outlet mentions that the symptoms of the disease can aggravate due to stress, exposure to sunlight, and even infections.
In her latest role, Selena Gomez stars alongside Zoë Saldaña in the upcoming Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez, premiering on Netflix on November 13.
The film’s debut has been eagerly anticipated by the masses, especially after Gomez’s appearance at the Premier held on October 29 premiere.
