Man killed by tree during storm named locally
A man who was killed by a falling tree during Storm Darragh has been named locally as Kher Hussain Shahin.
Mr Shahin died on Saturday when a tree collapsed and fell on to a car on Sutton Road in Erdington, Birmingham, at about 15:00 GMT.
In a post on X, Birmingham city councillor Majid Mahmood named Mr Shahin as the victim and said his thoughts and prayers were with his family.
Abdul Joshim, who said Mr Shahin was his brother-in-law, also shared a picture of him on Facebook and paid tribute.
West Midlands Police said the case had been referred to the coroner.
Residents spoke of their horror after the incident, with Hafiz Khalid saying he heard a âbig bangâ and his daughterâs scream as she looked out the window.
He said a âbig chunkâ of the tree had fallen across the carâs windscreen.
âPeople were trying to open the doors,â he said, adding the vehicleâs horn was sounding continuously.â
âThe police arrived and they opened the back window on the left side, and looked into it and shouted âcan you hear?â and there was no noise from [inside] the car.â
Sgt Benjamin Parsons, of the West Midlands roads policing unit, confirmed the victimâs next of kin had been informed.
