A former WWE Champion returned to weekly programming this past Monday after over two years of absence. However, his comeback ended badly as his stablemates betrayed him. Meanwhile, wrestling veteran Jonathan Coachman recently addressed the emotional segment.
The wrestler in question is none other than Big E. The 38-year-old suffered a serious neck injury in March 2022 during a match between The New Day and The Brawling Brutes on SmackDown. He has since been out of action while serving as a panelist on preshows at PLEs.
This past Monday, the former WWE Champion returned to RAW for the 10th anniversary celebrations of The New Day. However, the segment saw his partners, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, turn on him. Speaking on Behind The Turnbuckle: The Last Word, The Coach claimed Big E got legitimately emotional during the segment.
The wrestling veteran stated that the tear Big E shed on the red brand was real, adding that the 38-year-old would have wondered whether his wrestling career was over. The former Interim WWE RAW General Manager predicted that the former New Day member would never wrestle again.
“I think that emotion tonight, Tommy, is [that] it went all the way back through his head, and he was like, ‘Wait a second, is this really over?’ And I think for Big E, that was an emotional moment because, Tommy, I think for him it really is over. Don’t you think? I don’t think he’s coming back,” he said. [10:24-10:40]
Backstage update on Big E’s potential WWE in-ring return
On a Live Q&A on Backstage Pass, WrestleVotes recently gave an update on Big E‘s in-ring future after his return to WWE RAW this past Monday. While the former WWE Champion disclosed on the red brand that he was not cleared to compete, a recent report suggested he might be close to getting the medical clearance.
WrestleVotes pointed out that the Stamford-based company was keeping Big E’s medical status “kind of quiet!”
“What they are hearing about Big E is to be determined. Nobody knows if he’s cleared or not cleared. They’re keeping it kind of quiet, which leads me to think he might be close to being cleared. I can’t report that. I can’t say that with certainty.”
Before his partners turned on him, Big E offered his managerial services to Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. It will be interesting to see if he returns to television as a competitor in the coming months.
