Path of Exile 2 has achieved a commercial success that even the developers hadn’t expected. According to an official statement shared on their official social media, one million copies (across all platforms) were sold before the early access launch — this made it pretty clear that the game had garnered a massive following. Although the game will be free-to-play after full release, the early access packages are pretty expensive, the standard version starting from USD 29.99.

How many active players are in Path of Exile 2 right now?
So far, Path of Exile 2 has also achieved the following milestones:
- Top-selling game on Steam globally, second only to Counter-Strike 2 (a free-to-play game).
- Reaching Number 1 in the UK for sales.
Early access began on December 6, 2024, and the game’s launch saw a peak concurrent player count of 578,569 on Steam. This is more than double the peak of its predecessor, Path of Exile 1, which reached 229,337. As of writing, the current count of active players on Steam is 246,269.

However, Path of Exile 2 is not just available on Steam. Players can also play it on PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems. As said before, the game has sold over one million early access keys for the game across the platforms. While it is not possible to determine the total number of active players across all the platforms, we can safely say that it can be somewhere from 200K-1M.
The studio anticipates potential server queues due to the high demand but is committed to ensuring smooth gameplay for all.

What is the reception towards Path of Exile 2 so far?
Initial reception from players and critics has been positive. However, there are some criticisms about the game’s difficulty. While hardcore players want the game to be hard and unforgiving, the developers are trying to make the game as accessible as possible. On the other hand, in terms of technical issues, the game so far only suffers from some minimal bugs and glitches.
