âOne-in-a-billionâ round egg discovered in Devon
A Devon woman has discovered what she claims to be a âone-in-a-billionâ egg due to its unusual round shape.
Alison Greene, an egg handler on Fenton Farm, near the Somerset border, identified the rarity before Christmas and now plans to send it to auction.
A similar discovery sold at auction for ÂŁ200 in Berkshire with the funds going a mental health charity.
Ms Greene said she hopes to achieve a similar sum at an Exeter auction in March with proceeds going to the âincredibleâ Devon Rape Crisis charity.
âElon Musk hasnât got a round egg has he?â
The 57-year-old said she has worked at the Devon farm for three years, handling more than 42 million eggs, and had never found a round one before.
Discussing the moment she found the egg, she said: âIt was really surprising because they roll in a specific way and this one just didnât â it just stood out.
âItâs now something that nobody else has. Elon Musk hasnât got a round egg has he?â
She added: âHopefully, it will sell for a lot of money.â
Brian Goodison, an auctioneer at Bearnes Hampton Littlewood Auctioneers, said: âSpherical chicken eggs are quite unusual and there have been people that have paid north of ÂŁ100 and sometimes ÂŁ200 for them.â
