Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has opened up about his future retirement. He said he wants to lead Los Blancos to another UEFA Champions League trophy and retire at the club.
Ancelotti is a legendary manager and has been taking charge of clubs since 1995, beginning with Regianna. He has managed clubs like AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich over the years. He is the manager with most Champions League trophies, having won four with Real Madrid (2) and AC Milan (2).
In a recent interview, Ancelotti said about his retirement (via Madrid Xtra):
“I am going to retire at Real Madrid, but first I want another Champions League.”
He added:
“I will coach until as long as I stay at Real Madrid.”
Ancelotti led Los Blancos to La Decima (their 10th Champions League trophy) in 2014 before winning the club’s 14th in the 2021-22 season. He can help the Merengues win their 15th and win his fifth trophy by beating Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley on June 1.
Ancelotti’s contract with the Spanish giants expires in 2025. He was linked with a move away to the Brazilian national team last summer but ended up signing a new contract.
Real Madrid star asserts his desire to retire at the club
Los Blancos legend Luka Modric has asserted that he wants to retire at the club. The Croatian midfielder’s current contract is set to expire this summer. However, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, he is set to sign a one-year extension following Toni Kroos’ retirement.
In a recent interview with Cadena COPE, Modric spoke about his commitment to the Spanish giants and the constant chatter about his age. He said (via Managing Madrid):
“I have always said that I would like to retire at Real Madrid. It would be a dream to retire at home, at the club of my life, and I hope that happens. I have the physique and football to continue in the elite, I have no doubt.
“There has been a lot of talk about age and it bothers me. At Real Madrid the best players get on the field. Now I feel strong, but that can change in six months and if I see that I can no longer do it, I’ll be the first to admit it.”
Modric has made 45 appearances across competitions this season but started just 23 of them. He has mostly been behind the likes of Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde in the pecking order but scored two goals and provided eight assists.
Overall, the 38-year-old has registered 39 goals and 86 assists in 533 games for the Spanish giants since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012.
