A security alert on the outskirts of Dungiven, County Londonderry, is ongoing, police have said.

Army bomb experts and police attended the scene of the alert on Friday evening and remain there on Saturday morning.

The Foreglen Road is closed at its junctions with the Baranailt Road and Muldonagh Road and searches are being conducted in nearby fields.

Police have said the area is “likely to be closed for some time”.

Cordons are in place.

Members of the public, including motorists, have been asked to avoid the area at this time.

A further update will be provided in due course, police said.
