Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford was spotted walking out of the arena in discomfort following the side’s pre-season win over Real Betis on July 31. The 26-year-old was taken off in the second half after apparently being stepped on in the 3-2 win.
There was further concern for Erik ten Hag as Antony was taken off in the second period as well with an apparent injury.
The pre-season has been a worrying time for Manchester United as they have already lost key players to injury. Summer signing Leny Yoro suffered a foot injury in their previous clash against Arsenal and is expected to miss three months. Striker Rasmus Hojlund was also removed in that clash and will be out of action for six weeks with a hamstring injury.
Rashford had earlier pulled United back into the game from the spot (18′) after Iker Losada handed Betis the lead in the 15th minute. Amad Diallo (24′) and Casemiro (31′) added two more in a great first-half performance from the Red Devils.
After a difficult 2023-24 campaign that saw Rashford score just eight goals across all competitions, the winger would have hoped to have a strong pre-season and find his groove ahead of the new campaign. It is presently unclear how long he will be out for.
Manchester United handed boost in pursuit of PSG star
Manchester United have received some positive news as they continue to chase the signature of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte. This comes after a report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo confirming that Les Parisiens are close to an agreement for Benfica midfielder Joao Neves.
Neves is set to move to the Ligue 1 champions for a reported fee of €70 million. With PSG already boasting the likes of Vitinha and Warren Zaire-Emery, it means that playing time could be sparse for the Uruguayan. He has spent just one season at the Parc des Princes after joining from Sporting CP last season for €60 million and made 37 appearances across all competitions, bagging three assists.
The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo as a bonafide star means Manchester United are pursuing an option alongside him. Ugarte could take up a more defensive role, allowing Mainoo to foray forward in attack. With Casemiro linked with a move away from the club, the 23-year-old could be an ideal replacement for the Brazilian.
