Chelsea are reportedly in line to receive a sizeable fee as Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi looks set to move to Premier League rivals Newcastle United. Guehi has emerged as the top target for the Magpies this summer as they aim to strengthen their defensive unit ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Guehi was one of England’s standout performers at Euro 2024 this summer, featuring in all but one of the Three Lions’ games in Germany. He helped his country keep two clean sheets in the six games as England finished runners-up.
Marc Guehi began his professional career at Chelsea, where he made his first-team debut as a 19-year-old in the League Cup in 2019. The centre-back featured in the Blues’ 7-1 rout of Grimsby Town in a third-round fixture. He played just once more in a Chelsea shirt – a 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the following round of the domestic cup.
Chelsea sold Guehi to Crystal Palace in 2021 after an impressive loan spell at Swansea City. With reports indicating that the 24-year-old may be set to move to Newcastle United for around £65 million, the Blues stand to benefit from the transfer.
Metro UK reports Chelsea have a 20 percent sell-on clause in Guehi’s Crystal Palace contract. The report indicates the Blues also have matching rights to sign the England international ahead of any other club if they wish to.
Crystal Palace will be open to selling him for the right price as they have already signed defender Chadi Riad from Real Betis this summer. Guehi has made 111 appearances across competitions for the Eagles.
Chelsea agree terms with highly-rated Spanish striker – Reports
Chelsea have an agreement in place with 20-year-old Spanish youth international Samu Omorodion, as per The Athletic. The striker will join from Atletico Madrid for a reported £34.5 million on a seven-year contract.
The Blues have made multiple attempts to sign the striker this summer and finally found a breakthrough when Atletico agreed a fee with Manchester City for the transfer of Julian Alvarez.
Omorodion joined Atletico Madrid from Granada last summer before Los Rojiblancos sent him out on a season-long loan deal to Deportivo Alaves. He scored nine goals and provided an assist in 35 La Liga games in the 2023-24 season.
Omorodion has been likened to Erling Haaland and Rasmus Hojlund due to his sheer size and surprising speed. He is adept at arriving in prime positions in the box to score and is expected to compete for a starting berth at Stamford Bridge.
