Three arrested in Glasgow bus station evacuation
Three men have been arrested after an police incident closed down Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow.
The bomb squad was called out after reports of a suspicious package at Scotland’s busiest bus station at about 13:10.
BBC Scotland News understands the arrests are in connection with the recovery of offensive weapons.
The station was evacuated and remains closed, while nearby Killermont Street was shut to traffic and people were urged to avoid the area.
Glasgow Caledonian University, situated across the road from the station, was also evacuated as a precaution.
A university spokesperson said students would be updated in due course.
Police Scotland said three men had been arrested in connection with the incident and inquiries were ongoing.
Station operator Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) apologised for the disruption and said passengers would be updated when it reopened.
Stagecoach, First Bus and McGill’s and other bus firms all use the station.
Commuters have been urged to check with operators on how their services have been affected.
Diversion information can be found on their websites with some services collecting passengers at nearby bus stops as an alternative.
