The 43rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will see the Delhi Capitals (DC) host the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, April 27.
The two teams have had a similar campaign in this year’s cash-rich league. Delhi have won four of nine games and lost five, while Mumbai have played eight matches so far and have collected six points. DC are placed sixth in the standings, MI find themselves second from the bottom.
The two teams met each other earlier this season, where MI trumped the Capitals by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, Mumbai clobbered 234 runs, riding on breathtaking cameos from Romario Shepherd and Tim David. They successfully managed to defend the total, with Gerald Coetzee picking up a four-wicket haul.
While DC will look to return the favor, Mumbai will hope to continue their winning run and move up in the points table. With an exciting contest on the cards, fans will likely fill the stadium in huge numbers. Much to the delight of fans, there is no rain in the forecast despite the city witnessing some recent showers, according to Accuweather. Thus, a full 40 overs of the game will likely take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
However, the temperature will be high, hovering around 37-38 degrees Celsius, while the humidity level will be low.
“It’s really not easy on the bowlers at all” – DC director Sourav Ganguly wants more balance between bat and ball
A lot of runs have been scored in this year’s cash-rich league with the SunRisers Hyderabad breaching the 250-run mark three times alone. Last night, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) successfully chased down 262 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – the highest in the history of T20 cricket.
The bowlers have had it very difficult so far in IPL 2024, with everyone going for runs. DC director Sourav Ganguly highlighted the need for a proper balance between the bat and the ball.
“It’s really not easy on the bowlers at all,” Ganguly told reporters. “The way it’s going all around IPL, bowlers are getting carted all over. That’s one area that needs to be looked at in the future, a proper balance between bat and the ball.”
