Former Kisau/Kiteta MCA sentenced to two years in prison.
Former Kisau/Kiteta MCA, Hon. Wambua Masavu was yesterday sentenced to two years in prison without any fine. Masavu, who has been in and out of courts after the 2022 general elections was remanded at Capitol Hill police station last week after the court found him guilty of the accusations.
Masavu is accused of threatening to kill his political arch rival Hon. Darius Mainga who floored him in a closely contested election in 2022. He is accused of making the threatening sentiments on March 11,2023 during a family function at Ngoni, Mbooni Subcounty, after failing an election petition in Tawa Law courts. Masavu is recorded to have said,
“My votes were stolen and I went to Tawa Court but later realized that there is no court in Tawa only money changes hands. Money was poured and my case was thrown out of Court. I cannot surrender it either the current MCA dies or I die. Because my votes cannot be stolen and then ordered to pay somebody one Million. It’s not possible”.
Several attempts to settle the matter out of courts were met with resistance after the supporters of the two politicians maintained hard lines prompting the case to proceed to full trial. Hon. Masavu is still said to be the greatest political nightmare of his accuser in the coming election.
Masavu through his defence counsel has since filed an appeal application notice after the ruling.
