Despite the Houston Astros’ struggles in the 2024 season, they were on a winning streak, having won their last six games. Fans were quite displeased about the streak ending due to the loss against the Milwaukee Brewers.
“Say bye bye to that winning streak,” a fan said.
“Can’t even be mad. We won 6 in a row. Go get em, tomorrow,” another fan wrote.
“Yankees scored 30+ runs against this team lmaooooo. You could only score two!?” a user wrote.
Many Houston Astros fans blamed the loss on veteran Justin Verlander.
“I blame this loss ON JUSTIN VERLANDER,” a comment reads.
“They greatly overpaid for Verlander. He’s pitching like an old man,” another comment reads.
“Yainer Diaz could not call a good 5th inning Verlander never threw 40 plus pitches when Maldy was behind the plate. Time to make Caratini as starting catcher,” someone said.
The Houston Astros (20-26) are ranking third in AL West with Milwaukee Brewers (27-18) leading the NL Central. Both the clubs will face each other again on Sunday, in the final game of a three-game series, which will determine the series winner.
Justin Verlander acknowledges William Contreras’s outing
Justin Verlander started the fifth inning with his team in the lead, which came with Mauricio Dubon’s single in the third inning. After the 41-year-old gave up a three-run homer to William Contreras, he was replaced by Seth Martinez.
Talking about Contreras’ performance, Verlander said:
“Great at-bat. We got in a fight. He won. I can go home and put my head on my pillow tonight. I made a bunch of good pitches. He’s one of the best hitters in baseball and he got me.”
The three-time AL Cy Young winner and future Hall of Fame contender gave up four hits and four runs in 4.2 innings.
