Is there a feud brewing between the San Francisco 49ers’ Charvarius Ward and the New York Jets’ Sauce Gardner? According to the 49ers’ cornerback, it was just a misunderstanding on his part.
Ward discussed the social media interaction between the two earlier this year during an appearance on the “Up and Adams” show on Monday morning. Host Kay Adams asked Ward about the online argument, and he surprised her by saying he had never met Gardner.
Ward said he saw the comments right after the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII:
•
“I never met Sauce, I never talked to the man,” Ward said. “So we had just lost Super Bowl, I get on Twitter and I see a bunch of people tweeting about our team losing Super Bowl. In my head, I’m thinking like you in NFL as well, like you didn’t make the Super Bowl.”
Ward said he questioned what Sauce Gardner would know about the playoffs when the New York Jets haven’t made a postseason appearance during his tenure.
Once he calmed down, Ward deleted the post, but it had already gone viral. He said that he doesn’t hold any animosity toward the Jets’ cornerback but that he would rely on his teammates Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel to handle it for him.
“You didn’t even make it to the playoffs. So you know why are you talking about our team? But as I look back on it, I realize he was just giving his opinion, he really didn’t say anything bad about the 49ers,” Ward added.
“I tried to take the tweet down so this doesn’t blow up but it already did but I don’t have no beef with Sauce. If I did, I’d just tell BA and Deebo to handle that for me.”
The two young cornerbacks may just get an opportunity to meet as the Jets travel to the Bay area to face the 49ers in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.
Charvarius Ward vs. Sauce Gardner online feud explained
After the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner shared his thoughts on X. Gardner expressed doubt in the 49ers’ ability to get the job done.
“I told y’all. The 9ers might look better on paper but the Chiefs always find a way,” he said.
Charvarius Ward then saw Gardner’s post on the social media platform and responded by taking his own jab at Gardner and the Jets:
“Boy yo a** ain’t never sniffed the playoffs. You watching from the couch. Worry bout the sorry a** JETS. Everybody got something to say about the team in the Super Bowl. Your opinion doesn’t need be heard kid.”
The now-deleted posts on X showed Charvarius Ward’s frustration about the San Francisco 49ers‘ overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
